Good Monday Morning, my friends,
I know a typical Monday morning is not usually met with the enthusiasm of, "Hey, let's run a marathon." Running and morning are not two words that typically go together for me. In all my years of playing sports and competitions, I knew running was part of strength training, but I've never been fond of it.
It seems like Paul might have been a sports nut. If he were around today, he'd probably be the one sporting a Boston Red Sox shirt and hat, with all the stats and player information at his fingertips. So, it's no accident that Paul refers to running and boxing and the endurance required to win the prize as an illustration of the Christian life.
Paul reminds us that we are all participants in a race, and the prize is resting with Jesus Christ. That prize cannot fade away; it is imperishable. Therefore, we should enter this race with purpose. Paul is telling us not to run aimlessly or swing our fists in the air as if hitting something. We have purpose and direction in our running. We are to live intentionally, with our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.
As we enter a new week, let's be intentional and align our daily lives with Jesus Christ. Let's train our bodies to be transformed by God’s word and not conformed by this world.
May you be inspired to run this morning (lol), keeping your eyes fixed on Jesus, our ultimate prize. Let us pray for strength and perseverance to finish the race well, glorifying God in all that we do. Amen.
